Mgr. Tereza Firešová, PhDr. Veronika Včelíková, Ph.D.
Listy klinické logopedie 2026, 10(1):58-67 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2026.015
Flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) is a standard instrumental method for diagnosing dysphagia in adult patients. With the growing prevalence of neurological, neurodegenerative and chronic diseases, particularly among older adults, there is an increasing need for diagnostic procedures that are not only clinically valid, but also organisationally efficient and understandable to the patient. The effectiveness of FEES is significantly influenced by the patient's level of awareness, their cooperation, and the organisation of the diagnostic process.

Mgr. et Bc. Karolína Červinková, Mgr. Barbora Červenková, Ph.D.
Listy klinické logopedie 2026, 10(1):49-57 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2026.012
Neonatal non-verbal communication represents a fundamental means of interaction between the infant and the environment. It is an important indicator of neurodevelopmental maturity in both full-term and pre-term infants. This review article presents selected neurodevelopmental and developmental approaches, including synactive theory, developmental care, sensory integration theory, attachment theory and polyvagal theory, which contribute to the understanding of infant communication through behavioural and bodily signals. The article also provides an overview of methods for assessing non-verbal communication in clinical practice, ranging from clinical...

The existence of language corpora - large collections of texts enriched with different types of metadata - allows for language to be studied as it is actually used by speakers in different situations, providing a good estimate of how common linguistic items are in different contexts. This is related to the ways in which linguistic knowledge is organised and processed. This paper presents an overview of the possibilities of employing corpus linguistic data and tools in the study of language in aphasia, as well as in clinical practice. Corpus linguistics and corpora are discussed here mainly as sources of reference data, which can be used to predict...

Emphasis is placed on an individualised approach, patient motivation, and the patient's active engagement in the learning process.
Aphasia Therapy Finder - a Practical Guide to Aphasia TherapyMiscellaneous
Mgr. Tomáš Benko, prof. PaedDr. Zsolt Cséfalvay, PhD., Mgr. Viktória Čiernik Kevická, PhD.
Listy klinické logopedie 2026, 10(1):24-32 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2026.005
Currently, there is justified scepticism about the effectiveness of speech-language therapy for aphasia, rooted in a historical lack of empirical evidence. In the past, it was commonly believed that after a certain period, typically six months post-lesion, substantial recovery of language and speech abilities was unlikely. However, recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses show that targeted, theory-driven, intensive and long-term therapy yields significant improvements in naming, comprehension, reading, writing and functional communication, including in the chronic stage of aphasia. Key determinants of effectiveness are timing of treatment onset,...
Comprehensive assessment of dysphagia in patients with neurodegenerative diseasesMiscellaneous
Mgr. Veronika Kučerová, Mgr. Agáta Ptáčková, Mgr. Lucie Nohová, Ph.D.
Listy klinické logopedie 2026, 10(1):11-23 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2026.001
Dysphagia in neurodegenerative diseases represents a heterogeneous group of symptoms linked to specific diagnoses, progression, and patient age. This review summarises selected available diagnostic tools for dysphagia in neurodegenerative diseases. The article emphasises the need for individualisation of assessment due to the progressive nature of neurodegenerative diseases. The progressive nature distinguishes this population from other neurological conditions and limits the transferability of some tools.

Dysphonia is a frequent consequence of unilateral vocal fold paralysis (paresis), characterised by breathy voice quality, vocal fatigue, and short maximum phonation times. Injection laryngoplasty augmentation of the paretic vocal fold is a surgical procedure intended to improve glottal fold closure and alleviate symptoms of dysphonia. This article will present the preoperative and postoperative laryngological examination and voice assessment of patients undergoing vocal fold augmentation. The aim of the study is to evaluate changes in various areas of voice assessment (auditory-perceptual, acoustic, aerodynamic, and subjective) after vocal fold augmentation....

Mgr. Bc. Lenka Želonková, prof. PhDr. Karel Pančocha, Ph.D., M.Sc.
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):90-96 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.027715
Applied behaviour analysis (ABA) looks at a child's language expressions in terms of their function. From the perspective of ABA, the ability to request objects, activities and attention is one of the basic functions of communication. Our paper describes the course and results of the intervention aimed at developing verbal behaviour (ABA/VB) in a five-year-old child with long-term auditory deprivation. The individualised treatment plan focused on developing the skill of requesting favourite things and activities using sign language. Regular supervision of the mother and direct intervention with the child led to greater independence, frequency and variability...
Craniosacral therapy for preterm neonates and infantsMiscellaneous
Mgr. Barbora Červenková, Ph.D.
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):83-89 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.022851
This pilot study evaluates changes in sensorimotor responses in premature infants after receiving craniosacral therapy. The study included a total of 63 infants born between 28 and 31 weeks of gestation. These infants underwent three craniosacral therapy treatments during their hospitalization. The assessment used a sensorimotor reactivity scale to evaluate eye contact, response to two-point static and kinetic tactile stimulation, turning onto the side, and willingness to grasp and suck an offered finger. Differences in gross scores between pairs of measurements for each item were tested at a 5% significance level using the Wilcoxon paired test. All...
Assessing Language Development in Children with Cochlear Implants: Challenges and Perspectives in Czech PracticeMiscellaneous
Mgr. et Mgr. Michaela Svoboda, Dr. Kateřina Chládková, M.A.
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):74-82 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.0151039
The aim of this contribution is to introduce the current situation regarding the assessment of language development in children with cochlear implants in the Czech Republic. There is a lack of unified methodology that would allow for reliable monitoring of spoken language development in this population. As a result, not only is there insufficient information about the communicative development of these children, but it is also difficult to track the progress of individual cases.

prof. MUDr. Aleš Bartoš, Ph.D., MUDr. Magda Michalovová
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):53-63 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.028729
With the growing number of older adults and increasing life expectancy, there is a rising need for effective tools for the early detection of memory disorders and brief language assessment. Very brief tests lasting only up to five minutes are particularly suitable, as they allow early detection of mild cognitive impairment or dementia, assessment of severity and monitoring of progression over time. This article presents two original and innovative Czech memory tests: Amnesia Light and Brief Assessment (ALBA) and Picture Naming and Immediate Recall (PICNIR/POBAV).

Mgr. Michaela Tížková, Mgr. Gabriela Solná, Ph.D., Mgr. Lucie Kytnarová, Ph.D.
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):39-44 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.025740
Comprehensive care for an adult patient with caustic injury requires interdisciplinary collaboration among a wide range of specialists from both medical and non-medical professions. The presented case report aims to introduce to the professional community the possibilities of involving a clinical speech-language therapist in both the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for an adult female patient after a suicide attempt resulting in an extensive caustic oesophageal injury. In such cases, the speech-language therapist addresses the disorders of swallowing, phonation, respiration or articulation that arise from the chemical burns of the structures...
The Verbal Fluency Test as a tool for the differential diagnosis of dementia and mild cognitive impairment, as against normal ageing: A Research Review studyMiscellaneous
Mgr. Michaela Zapletalová, Prof. Mgr. Kateřina Vitásková, Ph.D.
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):31-38 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.024696
Dementia can ultimately be understood as a linguistic, neurogenic, and cognitive disorder. With the increasing average life expectancy, the number of individuals affected by dementia continues to rise, underscoring the importance of early and accurate diagnosis. A detailed assessment of not only language processes can provide valuable information to both healthcare professionals and family members, particularly in developing an appropriate therapeutic plan. Results of the verbal fluency test reflect not only the overall level of language abilities, but also the functional integrity of executive functions and semantic memory. Due to its simplicity and...

Mgr. Lucie Nohová, Ph.D., Mgr. Jolanta Branná
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):25-30 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.020929
The semantic system plays a key role in interpersonal communication. Its disruption can be manifested in people with various diagnoses (aphasia, primary progressive aphasia, dementia). However, to date there has been no assessment tool designed exclusively for assessing the Czech semantic system. For this reason, the article presents the Arizona Semantic Test, which has been adopted in the Czech environment. Standards for the adult population have been established for the test. In addition, equivocal items have been identified in terms of error rates and reaction times. The next step is to standardise the Arizona Semantic Test in the Czech environment.
From Analysis to Intervention: Linguistic Specifics in Czech Speakers with AphasiaMiscellaneous
Mgr. Bára Hloucalová
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):18-24 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.021755
The article focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration between linguistics and speech therapy. Based on a linguistic analysis of authentic aphasic utterances, interferences across different language levels are identified. Special attention is devoted to the definition of agrammatism and its manifestations. The analysis demonstrates that these phenomena can be systematically mapped and used as a foundation for therapeutic approaches. The study shows that the integration of linguistic analysis and speech therapy intervention enables more accurate diagnosis of language deficits and contributes to more effective aphasia treatment.

Mgr. Nicole Radová, Mgr. Naděžda Lasotová, MBA, doc. PhDr. Ilona Bytešníková, Ph.D.
Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):8-17 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.018751
Mind maps (mind mapping), originally developed as an efficient note-taking tool, have been shown in recent research to be beneficial to learning, supporting cognitive functions, and developing foreign language skills. This article presents a case study describing the use of mind mapping to enhance expressive language abilities in a patient with Broca's aphasia following a stroke. Intensive therapy was conducted for six weeks, and its effect on the patient's spontaneous verbal production was assessed immediately after the therapy and again after one month without targeted training. An increase in the number of content words in spontaneous speech was...
