The Use of Applied Behaviour Analysis in the Development of Communication in a Child with Hearing Impairment: a Case ReportMiscellaneous

Mgr. Bc. Lenka Želonková, prof. PhDr. Karel Pančocha, Ph.D., M.Sc.

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):90-96 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.027207

Applied behaviour analysis (ABA) looks at a child's language expressions in terms of their function. From the perspective of ABA, the ability to request objects, activities and attention is one of the basic functions of communication. Our paper describes the course and results of the intervention aimed at developing verbal behaviour (ABA/VB) in a five-year-old child with long-term auditory deprivation. The individualised treatment plan focused on developing the skill of requesting favourite things and activities using sign language. Regular supervision of the mother and direct intervention with the child led to greater independence, frequency and variability...

Mgr. Barbora Červenková, Ph.D.

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):83-89 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.022286

This pilot study evaluates changes in sensorimotor responses in premature infants after receiving craniosacral therapy. The study included a total of 63 infants born between 28 and 31 weeks of gestation. These infants underwent three craniosacral therapy treatments during their hospitalization. The assessment used a sensorimotor reactivity scale to evaluate eye contact, response to two-point static and kinetic tactile stimulation, turning onto the side, and willingness to grasp and suck an offered finger. Differences in gross scores between pairs of measurements for each item were tested at a 5% significance level using the Wilcoxon paired test. All...

Assessing Language Development in Children with Cochlear Implants: Challenges and Perspectives in Czech PracticeMiscellaneous

Mgr. et Mgr. Michaela Svoboda, Dr. Kateřina Chládková, M.A.

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):74-82 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.015308

The aim of this contribution is to introduce the current situation regarding the assessment of language development in children with cochlear implants in the Czech Republic. There is a lack of unified methodology that would allow for reliable monitoring of spoken language development in this population. As a result, not only is there insufficient information about the communicative development of these children, but it is also difficult to track the progress of individual cases.

prof. MUDr. Aleš Bartoš, Ph.D., MUDr. Magda Michalovová

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):53-63 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.028248

With the growing number of older adults and increasing life expectancy, there is a rising need for effective tools for the early detection of memory disorders and brief language assessment. Very brief tests lasting only up to five minutes are particularly suitable, as they allow early detection of mild cognitive impairment or dementia, assessment of severity and monitoring of progression over time. This article presents two original and innovative Czech memory tests: Amnesia Light and Brief Assessment (ALBA) and Picture Naming and Immediate Recall (PICNIR/POBAV).

Mgr. Michaela Zapletalová, Prof. Mgr. Kateřina Vitásková, Ph.D.

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):31-38 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.024182

Dementia can ultimately be understood as a linguistic, neurogenic, and cognitive disorder. With the increasing average life expectancy, the number of individuals affected by dementia continues to rise, underscoring the importance of early and accurate diagnosis. A detailed assessment of not only language processes can provide valuable information to both healthcare professionals and family members, particularly in developing an appropriate therapeutic plan. Results of the verbal fluency test reflect not only the overall level of language abilities, but also the functional integrity of executive functions and semantic memory. Due to its simplicity and...

Arizona Semantic Test - Czech version with standards for adultsMiscellaneous

Mgr. Lucie Nohová, Ph.D., Mgr. Jolanta Branná

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):25-30 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.020301

The semantic system plays a key role in interpersonal communication. Its disruption can be manifested in people with various diagnoses (aphasia, primary progressive aphasia, dementia). However, to date there has been no assessment tool designed exclusively for assessing the Czech semantic system. For this reason, the article presents the Arizona Semantic Test, which has been adopted in the Czech environment. Standards for the adult population have been established for the test. In addition, equivocal items have been identified in terms of error rates and reaction times. The next step is to standardise the Arizona Semantic Test in the Czech environment.

From Analysis to Intervention: Linguistic Specifics in Czech Speakers with AphasiaMiscellaneous

Mgr. Bára Hloucalová

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(2):18-24 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.021245

The article focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration between linguistics and speech therapy. Based on a linguistic analysis of authentic aphasic utterances, interferences across different language levels are identified. Special attention is devoted to the definition of agrammatism and its manifestations. The analysis demonstrates that these phenomena can be systematically mapped and used as a foundation for therapeutic approaches. The study shows that the integration of linguistic analysis and speech therapy intervention enables more accurate diagnosis of language deficits and contributes to more effective aphasia treatment.

SPEECH IN RHYTHM OR WHY INTENSIVE AND INTERVAL THERAPY IN SPEECH THERAPY WORKSMiscellaneous

PhDr. Veronika Včelíková, Ph.D., Mgr. Lea Šafránková

Listy klinické logopedie 2025, 9(1):67-74 | DOI: 10.36833/lkl.2025.0121116

Speech, movement, proper ontogenetic development of the individual, cognition, emotions, ability to learn, memory and the list could go on. All of these are directly dependent on balance, which is based on the rhythm realised at an optimal pace with sufficient intensity and in regularly recurring intervals of well-chosen timing. Often, due to automated activities, we are not aware of the regularity, planning and organisation with which we perform the basic motor patterns that we intuitively and quite naturally learn through sufficiently intense interval rhythmic activities. And it is precisely the therapy in Speech Therapy practice conducted intensively...

The human genome contains approximately 20,000 protein-coding genes, of which more than 15,000 (3/4) are expressed, among others, in the central nervous system. Variants that damage the function of these genes (called pathogenic variants) can lead to various forms of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD), including speech and language disorders. These can occur alone or in various combinations. In this review article, we provide information on the possibilities, limits and importance of genetic testing in patients with NDD.

Autism Spectrum Disorders are pervasive developmental disorders. This means that they influence almost all areas of early development. Parents can see differences mainly in the social area. Children with ASD do not share activities, do not communicate their needs and wishes. At the age of 18 months, parents fill in the M-CHAT-R screening, which is sensitive to possible neurodevelopmental problems. A paediatrician can send the child to specialists in ASD diagnosis - clinical psychologist, child psychiatrist, neurologist and clinical speech therapist. In this article, we introduce you to a case study with differential diagnoses, showing the differences...
